Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a growing and important business approach that many organizations implement. CSR initiates take into consideration every aspect of how an organization operates in the social, cultural, and economic environment. To UCS, CSR is important because it is our duty as student leaders and mentors to act in the best interests of our students, stakeholders, community, and society as a whole.
CSR Initiatives
UCS strives to be socially committed to giving back to the community. Throughout the year, we host and participate in a variety of community events and initiatives.
Heart & Stroke Foundation Big Bike
UCS participates in the Big Bike hosted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation to help lower cases of cardiovascular disease, develop treatments, and create more survivors! In 2016, UCS raised $2,400 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation!
Commerce Cares
Commerce Cares is our annual accounting charity event in partnership with Free the Children and large firms. The event allows students to make lasting impressions on the firms while playing sports and contributing to a good cause. In 2016, UCS raised over $475 for Free the Children!
Dodge for the Cure
Dodge for the Cure is our annual charity dodge-ball game that aims to raise money for UTM Run for the Cure and to support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
CIBC Run for the Cure
Every year, UCS participates in the CIBC Run for the Cure, under the UTM team called UTM Run for the Cure to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The aim is to run or walk in order to raise funds for breast cancer research, education, and advocacy initiatives.
5 Days of Giving
Five Days of Giving is a week-long opportunity to donate food, clothes, toys, and more! The donations go to different charity organizations such as the Salvation Army, Mississauga Food Bank, and Sick Kids Foundation.
Kiva Microfunds
UCS is an official lender of Kiva Microfunds, a non-profit organization that allows individuals to lend money to low-income entrepreneurs and students in over 80 countries. In 2016, UCS loaned money to a mother of four in Pakistan to support the family business.
